Today, we look at residences, businesses, and apartment buildings in the North Hyde Park neighborhood, from Linwood Boulevard south to 33rd Street, and Gillham Road east to Holmes Street.

I was born in 1983 and raised on 33rd & Holmes. My dad and his family moved to this neighborhood in the 60’s. I have very fond memories of this area!
I lived all around that area- 5 places on Troost -2 on Harrison 1 on Cherry. After that we moved out of the area. I spent a lot of my pre- teen years playing in Gilliam Park- yo could run around in those days. Richard
I lived at 3741 Locust in an upstairs duplex apartment about 6 years when I was married. I worked at Western Auto in the Art Dept. with YOU Richard Lumpkin, Tavi, Frank Brave, etc. in 1956-57. I also lived at a 4805 Holmes 4-plex across from the south Nelson Gallery lawn, which has since been demolished. I played tennis in Hyde Park, in the little court down in the “valley” where Gillham divided. I’ve lived in mid-town/Westport ever since. Let’s talk, Richard!?
I went to Lillis High School and Cleveland Chiropractic College and also lived in several locations in the area. I also played tennis at the little court in Hyde Park and lived in one of those old mansions just east of the park we had the 3rd floor a really neat apartment but hot in the summer with no air conditioning. Didn’t know how lucky I was at the time. My parents met at the movie theater at 31st and Holmes. I remember how great the Ritz ice cream was in that location.
My Aunt worked for Ed’s Florist I think in the 40’s. She meant my Uncle there. They were Robert and Winfred (Mathison) Shrout. I miss them both.
My Aunt Winfred Mathison worked there and meant my Uncle there Robert Shrout. The were married sometime in the 50’s I think.
