The summer drought has been hard on water pipes around Midtown, but what caused this giant sinkhole on the 3900 block of Central Street?
We received a report from the Heart of Westport neighborhood about a hole that appeared recently. At first, residents thought the hole was about a foot wide and a foot deep. The city’s 3-1-1 Action Center sent someone out immediately to investigate and repair the hole.
It turns out the sinkhole was 12 feet deep. It may have been caused by sewer pipes that used to run to a house that was torn down years ago.
