What happened last week in Midtown Kansas City?

Midtown loves its historic buildings, and last week residents celebrated the renovation of the Bellerive on Armour Boulevard. Mac properties also announced new plans on Armour. And Squire Park opened up its historic homes for its annual tour. 

In continuing plans for transit’s future, businesses and residents gave input into the future of streetcars, including a proposed Linwood/31st Street route. A new report also said that commuter rail is still physically possible, but a commuter line to Union Station could be cost prohibitive. The city also took action meant to ensure that, as streetcars are added, funding will get better and more certain for buses.

Local clergy teamed up in a new initiative to fight violence in Kansas City, as the Aim4Peace program received a $1.2 million grant to serve a larger area of the east side.

The Kansas City School District invited residents to give input into school attendance boundaries. The superintendent also gave a speech in which he said the district is surging forward. Meantime, we reported on how Kansas City libraries are preparing for Google Fiber
