Westport Middle School rehab moves forward

westport-middleThe city council plans and zoning committee on Wednesday approved and advanced a rezoning and development plan for the renovation of Westport Middle School.

The changes go to the full council today for final approval.

Sustainable Redevelopment Partners is doing a mixed-use redevelopment at the 4.6-acre site and the city changes would allow wide latitude of uses.

That will be useful as negotiations go forward on leasing and financing, said Chip Walsh, a partner in the project.

Among uses that would be allowed: office, food and beverage, entertainment and spectator sport, daycare, parking garage, medical office, urban architecture, personal improvement services, consumer repair, retail sales and library/museum/cultural.

The partners’ plan includes commercial space mainly targeted to non-profit office space, up to 100 market rate apartments and a farming and gardening operation with possible sales from it on site.
