The Westport Historical Society and the 1855 Harris-Kearney House Museum’s May gallery exhibit features the work of Craig McCord, a self-taught landscape photographer with an interest in western national parks.
McCord grew up in northeast Florida, but he ultimately settled in the Midwest, where his appetite for landscape photography evolved and deepened. After an initial trip to the west in the late 80s he fell in love with the grand western landscapes, especially the desert southwest. His displayed collection is compiled of select images of two of his favorite locations, Mt. Zion National Park and Sedona, Arizona.
McCord’s style often includes wide-angle perspectives and other techniques to add a sense of depth to draw the viewer into the image. He applies the use of light and form to convey the magnificence found in the natural environment and the importance of the preservation and revitalization of nature. His images are in private collections in the various parts of the United States and in the Virgin Islands. Based out of the Kansas City area, McCord also captures the beauty of the Midwest and conducts photography workshops in southeast Missouri and also in Oregon and the Pacific Coast.
Craig McCord’s exhibit will be open for viewing from May 8-31. Admission to the exhibit is free.
