Westport Center for Arts presents The Wires

Original classical music – influenced by everything from tango to gypsy, from jazz to rock styles – is on tap at a Oct. 17 Westport Center for the Arts concert.

The event features The Wires, a string music duo made up of violinist Laurel Morgan and cellist Sascha Groschang.

The Wires released their debut album in 2013, and the two are the creators and executive directors of Wired In, a workshop for string players interested in learning new styles and techniques.

Morgan has been playing violin for 25 years. She has performed with the Des Moines Symphony, Quixotic, and Musical Theatre Heritage at the Off-Center Theatre. She is a member of In the Pines, a folk-rock band.

Groschang is a faculty member of Missouri Western State University. She has been a soloist with the Kansas City Chorale and The Bach-Aria Soloists. Groschang is also the principal continuo player for the Trinity Lutheran Bach Cantata series.
