Westport Center for the Arts offers folk music performance

kelly-wertsAmerican folk music – both old and new– takes center stage at a Westport Center for the Arts’ Brown Bag Concert Series March 20.

Folk musician Kelly Werts and guest vocalist Pam Gregory will explore American folk music during their performance  at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Werts will present “Old and New American Traditions,” a selection of songs ranging from hundreds of years old to 20th century compositions. Gregory, a soprano and folk music enthusiast, will sing with Werts in several selections.

Werts has performed throughout the Midwest for more than 20 years, including appearances at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. His music has been heard in local and national television and films, and he has performed with Connie Dover, The Plaid Family and many others. Werts most recently completed recording a solo album.

Gregory sang with the Fine Arts Chorale for more than 30 years and has served Westport Presbyterian Church as soprano section leader and soloist for more than 16 years. She has served on the Westport Center for the Arts board of directors since 2008 and served as president since 2013. She first met Kelly Werts at a Plaid Family concert in Weston, Mo., where they discovered that they lived across the street from each other.
