Local artist Trent Alexander will be painting a 10-foot mural on the side of the Thriftway at 40th and Main. When it’s done, before March 15, Main Street organizations hope people will take “selfies” in front of it to show their love of Midtown.

The project originated with the Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor) and the Main Street Community Improvement District (MSCID).

“The purpose of this mural is to show love for Midtown Kansas City.  The mural should encourage residents, business owners, city officials, law enforcement, etc to take “selfies” in front of it and post to social media using the hashtag “#luvmidtownkc,” they said in an announcement.

Trent Alexander, who specializes in graffiti art, also works at Midwest Cyclery, next door to Thriftway, where he can  monitor the mural daily.
