After concerns that the demolition process had begun to tear down three Plaza apartment buildings, the demolition process may be delayed.

Historic Kansas City says it filed an application with the City Historic Preservation Office to include these buildings in the Nelle Peters Thematic Historic District. This should put into effect a demolition delay until the application can be considered by the commission.

It is time to protect the historic buildings on and near the Country Plaza. This should be a question for every City Council candidate and especially Jolie Justus and John Fierro. It seems likely Jolie will get elected and what an opportunity for her to be a leader.

Protecting these historic buildings should be a priority for council and citizens alike. What will it take to make this happen?
