UMKC students plan vigil for Ferguson tonight

umkc-rallyStudent leaders at the University of Missouri-Kansas City are organizing a candlelight vigil and march to commemorate recent events in Ferguson, Mo.

Organizers Danielle McFadden and Carly M. Jones are the president and vice president of the campus chapter of the NAACP. They say their intent is to raise awareness on campus about the situation and to promote a constructive response.

The initial program at Bloch Executive Hall at 6:30 p.m. will include guest speakers, poetry and prayer. Students will then march from Bloch Executive Hall to the African-American History and Culture House, 5245 Rockhill Rd., for the vigil and additional poetry and prayers.

UMKC will make counseling staff available to participants.
