Teen charged in Plaza, Warwick robberies

Derrick Sanders

Jackson County prosecutors today charged a Kansas City teen in two robberies, including one in the Plaza.

Derrick L. Sanders, 19, faces two counts for first-degree robbery. Two juveniles were also arrested with him.

According to court records:

In the Plaza robbery Tuesday in the 4800 block of Roanoke Road, the victim told police that three men approached him and one of them wore a spiderman mask.

He said they pushed him to the ground, hit him in the head and kicked him and stole an Ipad, wallet and cell phone. A security camera showed the robbers leaving in a teal Pontiac.

The other robbery was Sunday at 38th Street and Warwick Avenue, where a victim said a man robbed him and fled in a teal Pontaic.

On Thursday, Plaza security officers called police after seeing three suspicious men in a parking garage around a teal Pontaic.

Police later stopped the car and found Sanders driving it and the two juveniles with him. They also found a red spiderman mask, other clothes worn by the robbers and a toy cap gun, along with the cell phone stolen from the Plaza victim.
