Tech meets local politics at town hall

civic-tech-forumMembers of the Kansas City tech community are getting up to speed on local political issues. And they’re hoping local politicians will learn something about tech issues as well.

KC Digital Drive and Code for America are sponsoring what they’re calling a Civic Tech Forum Feb. 23 from 3-5 p.m. It is designed as a town hall meeting to bring together candidates for the city council with people who work in the increasingly-important tech sector.

This event is being held in conjunction with Code for America’s national CodeAcross celebration, an event series designed to get technology advocates actively involved in their community.

  • February 23, 2015, at the Union Station City Stage.
  • Civic Tech Forum from 3-5 p.m. The forum will feature many of the candidates running for council as well as some incumbents. Community members are encouraged to tweet their questions using the hashtag #civictechkc.
  • Civic Tech Showcase from 5-7 p. m. This will feature entrepreneurs, nonprofits, developers and designers who have made apps that help cities work better. They will give five-minute presentations about things like an app that leads to safer driving and a community mapping tool for neighborhood projects.
