Take a virtual ride on the KC streetcar

People who want to follow the progress of Kansas City’s streetcar system or see where detours for it will be can do it online.

The new website –www.kcstreetcar.org – will provide construction and detour updates and more information, the Kansas City Streetcar Authority Inc., announced.

It also has a video with music that takes viewers along the route.

The authority is the non-profit governing body that monitors the financial progress of the $100 million project that will run from the River Market to Crown Center.

Also in the announcement:

Next week, members of the project team will walk the route and speak to business owners, residents, workers and others there.

During the week of Feb. 11, exploratory drilling begins along the two-mile route to prepare for installing electric poles for powering the streetcars, the group said.

Actual utility relocation is to begin this summer and streetcars are expected to be running by summer of 2015.

There will be 18 stops along the line through the Downtown area.
