Streetcar planning process includes Main Street, Linwood workshops

The city continues to study possible expansion routes for streetcar lines across Kansas City.

It has invited residents to eight workshops including two in Midtown.

Here are details from a city press release:

One public workshop will be held between September 26, 2013 and October 10, 2013 for each of the individual corridors currently being studied.

“The streetcar project is a milestone in Kansas City history,” said Kansas City Mayor Sly James.  “I encourage residents to take part in history by attending one of the corridor workshops to learn more about the options and weigh in on what direction they believe this project should take.”

Since the launch of the planning project, an eighth line has been added for study; the Country Club Right-of-Way between UMKC and the Dodson Industrial Area. The other seven corridors include Independence Avenue, Southwest Boulevard, 12th Street east of Main, 12th Street west of Main, 18th Street east of Main, 31st Street/Linwood Boulevard east of Main and Main Street from Union Station to UMKC. Along each corridor, the Project Team has been reaching out to the community to inform the analysis and review of all 8 corridors.

Robert Langenkamp, KCMO Planning Director, said, “The next set of streetcar routes is a very important effort for the city and its citizens, so we encourage everyone to utilize the many methods of engagement, including these corridor workshops input to participate in the planning process.”
