Now that the St. Patrick’s Day Parade goes down Broadway in Midtown, neighborhoods and residents always have a lot of questions about the parade route, parking and cleanup.

Thanks to the Broadway Westport Council for providing these details gathered at a meeting with the parade committee.

  • Dates and time: Sunday, March 17th, 11:00 a.m.
  • Parade route: begins at Broadway and Linwood and goes south down Broadway to 43rd Street.
  • Staging area: The staging area will once again include Broadway from 31st Street to Linwood, Linwood east of Broadway to Pennsylvania and 33rd Street west of Broadway to Main Street.
  • Street closings: Streets in the staging area will be closed  first to at about  7:30 a.m. on parade day, as parade entrants begin arriving. At about. 9:00 a.m., KCPD officers will begin closing ALL of Broadway between 31st Street and 43rd Street, as well as “cross streets” 1 block east and west of Broadway in order to keep traffic from getting to Broadway where cars will get blocked when they get to Broadway.  KCPD will reopen Broadway and cross streets as soon as possible after the parade passes and the clean-up crews clear each intersection from north to south, at about 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
  • Parked Cars on Broadway:  “No Parking” signs will be erected along the parade route and staging areas on Friday, March 15th.  Although these signs will be placed on Friday, March 15th and will say “No Parking”, that “No Parking” does not apply until early morning on March 17th.  It is critical to completely clear parked cars from Broadway between 31st and 43rd Streets and east and west on Linwood/33rd Street between Pennsylvania and Main Street.  Therefore, be sure cars are moved off of Broadway, Linwood and 33rd Street as early as possible on the morning of the 17th, but absolutely all cars must be moved by 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 17th.  Street cleaning equipment will arrive during the early morning hours on March 17th to “pre-clean” the street, curb to curb, for the parade.
  • Parade Parking – Some businesses near the parade route will making parking available for a fee, and some of these businesses are donating proceeds to various charities. Watch the parade website to view parking areas that are available.
  • Clean up: The Parade Committee will place some trash cans at strategic locations to allow parade goers to deposit their trash appropriately.  At the end of the parade, a cleanup crew will follow to clean trash from the street and sidewalks using vacuums and blowers.
