Storm does widespread damage in Midtown

storm1Browne’s Irish Marketplace in Valentine is among those dealing with storm damage this morning. Trees, like this one on 33rd Street just across from the popular business, are leading to a massive cleanup. Many residents are also still without power.

storm-2KCPL said last night’s storm caused the largest single storm outage it has seen since the ice storm of 2002.

This system stretched from the Springfield area all the way up to Maryville, Missouri. It had sustained winds of more than 60-70 mph and gusting in excess of 80 mph.

“Due to the widespread damage, we expect a multi-day restoration effort for some areas of our service territory where the most damage occurred,” KCPL said on its website.

The power company asks that customers report outages and downed lines at http://bit.ly/1NlprU0 or by calling 1-888-LIGHTK.
