State commissioner recommends continued unaccredited status for schools

The Missouri Commissioner of Education has recommended that the Kansas City School District remain unaccredited this year, according to the Kansas City Star.

The recommendation goes to the state board, which will consider the matter later next month.

Commissioner Chris Nicastro did offer  praise for the district’s improvement in the latest state report card.

However, she continues to say the district needs to show more sustained improvement before gaining provisional accreditation. If the schools remain in unaccredited status, transfers of students to surrounding districts could be triggered in the 2014-20145 school year.
