The state says it thinks there are some factual inaccuracies in the recent court ruling on the Gordon Parks Charter School.
According to a press release, the State Board of Education and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) have filed a motion to amend the decision on Gordon Parks.
“We are requesting the amendment in order to clear up some of the factual inaccuracies expressed in the ruling that was written by opposing counsel,” said Chris L. Nicastro, commissioner of education.
The State Board voted not to renew the school’s five-year charter application at its May meeting. A decision by a judge last month overturned that vote.
The state so far has not appealed the decision, and Gordon Parks officials have said they hope that will not happen.
“In the interest of our mutual public missions of helping and teaching children, I urge the DESE, the State Board of Education and the State of Missouri not to appeal the court’s ruling. Neither side should waste additional resources, which I am sure we can agree are better spent helping our children grow and learn,” Gordon Parks board president Doug Curry wrote in a letter to DESE after the court ruling.
