Midtowners have ringside seats for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. If you’re planning to attend, or just need to get around the neighborhoods on Monday, here is some information you may find helpful.
The parade will take place on Monday, March 17 at 11 a.m. It begins at Broadway and Linwood and moves south down Broadway to 43rd Street.
Street closings and traffic: The police department will begin closing Broadway from 31st to 43rd and all cross streets for one block from Broadway at about 7:30 a.m. The streets will be reopened after the parade has passed, at about 1:30 or 2 p.m. The streets get very congested early in the day, so be aware if you have errands to run or a need to get in and out during the parade hours.
No parking on streets: There is no parking on Broadway from 31st to 43rd or on Linwood/33rd Street from Pennsylvania to Main on March 17. The no parking signs will go up earlier, and towing will begin after 3 a.m. that morning so that the streets can be cleaned before the parade begins.
Parking for attendance: Some businesses and organizations making parking available for the parade for a price. The parade website www.kcirishparade.com is supposed to post a list of parking options, although as of Thursday evening that list was not yet available on the site. Some organizations use the parking fees as a fundraiser or donate them to charity.
After-parade cleanup: The parade committee has said it will place trash cans at strategic locations and will send a cleanup crew along Broadway and the side streets after the parade.
