St. Patrick’s Day Run through Midtown Saturday morning

st.-patricks-day-runAs Midtown gears up for St. Patrick’s Day, the annual Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run is scheduled for this Saturday.

The race sponsored by the Kansas City Track Club begins Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m., “when bagpipes will sound, glasses will rise, and a sea of green will flood Kansas City,” according to organizers. The race benefits the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Westport.

There will be a four-mile run, a kids run and other activities.

Costumes and festive attire are encouraged. There’s also a sing along (When Irish Eyes are Shining) before the race and a dance-the-best-Irish-jig contest.

Race route: Runners and walkers will start on Westport Rd., in front of Kelly’s Westport Inn. Head West on Westport Rd to Clark St. Then turn Left, heading South on Clark St. Make another Left onto 43rd St., heading East. Turn Left onto Warwick Blvd, heading North to 38th St. Turn Right on 38th St, heading East. Take 38th St. to Gillham and make a Left, heading North on Gillham on the west side of the road (Gillham is a divided road). Turn Left onto Linwood Blvd, heading West. Turn Left onto Broadway, heading South. Turn Right onto 34th St, heading West. Then turn Left onto Pennsylvania Ave, heading South. Follow to the Finish Line!
