Spousal support went too far, police say

Jackson County prosecutors on Friday charged a Kansas City man with running down a bicyclist in Midtown and shooting him.

Kevin Brinston, 57, is charged with 1st-degree assault and armed criminal action for the shooting on Monday at 31st Street and Prospect Avenue.

The victim told police that he was shot after he got into an argument with Brinston’s wife, according to court papers.

When police responded to the wounded man, he told them, “Peaches’ husband shot me; they hang out together at 31st and Mersington,” police reported.

He and Peaches argued about an hour before Brinston drove his vehicle into the victim’s bicycle, knocked him down and shot him in the abdomen, the victim said. He said Brinston also told him: “Don’t … with my wife or I’ll kill you.”

Surgeons removed the victim’s right kidney, part of his liver and his colon had to be dissected and he now has a colostomy bag, police reported.
