Second sentence in murder of music student

A second defendant has been sentenced to prison in the 2013 murder of Aaron Markarian, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peter Baker has announced.

Markarian was an opera singer with at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance who would have graduated within months.

The victims were shot at a birthday party in a residence near UMKC after they gave robbers their property.

The thieves took about $400 in cash, cellphones and a small amount of marijuana.

Anthony J. Williams, 23, was sentenced to 18 years. The co-defendant in the case, Alonzo D. Ruff, had already been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
