School district seeks input on reestablishing middle schools

The Kansas City School District wants advice from the community about whether it should reestablish middle schools.

The district eliminated middle schools in 2010, breaking students into just two groups: pre-kindergarten through sixth grade; and seventh through twelfth grade.

Now the district is considering reestablishing the middle schools in 2014. It is asking parents, community members and employees to serve on a Middle School Advisory Committee.

The committee will help the district decide whether to bring back the middle school concept, develop a vision for the schools, and provide input into building design, curriculum and activities.

Interested persons can apply for the committee by completing an on-line application.  Hard copy applications are available at the KCPS Board of Education, 1211 McGee St., Kansas City, Mo., as well as all KCPS schools beginning Friday, Jan. 11. The deadline to submit an application is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. Selected applicants will be contacted by phone.
