With Superintendent Stephen Green on his way to a new job, the Kansas City School Board has made plans for finding his replacement.

Green has said he will continue working with the district through the end of his contract in June.

“As the Kansas City Public Schools Board of Education undertakes the work of identifying a new superintendent, the KCPS Board commits to seeking parent, community and other stakeholder input into the process, and to providing regular communications about our processes and actions,” the board said in an announcement yesterday.

The board held a special meeting on Wednesday. It says it finalized “establishment of an ad hoc committee charged with making recommendations regarding the superintendent search process for consideration and action by the full KCPS Board.:

The committee will help find a consulting firm to help in the recruitment and selection process, and outside legal counsel. It will also develop a timeline for the process.

” The board is fully aware of the importance of these decisions and by taking these steps we believe that we will develop a process and timeline that will result in a positive outcome for Kansas City’s children,” according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the board says it will choose an interim leader until a permanent superintendent is found. The interim superintendent will be charged with keeping a focus on getting the district to full accreditation.

The statement added that that the process of finding an interim superintendent has already begun. The board has promised an update following its next board meeting on May 27.

Board updates related to the superintendent search process will be posted online.
