Rockhurst security officer shoots armed man

There’s still confusion over a traffic incident that led a Rockhurst University security guard to shoot a man yesterday.

Police say officers got a call at 3 p.m. from 52nd and Troost about an injury accident and shooting. When they arrived, witnesses told them a black male in his 20s was involved in a car wreck and then pointed a handgun at several witnesses who tried to help him.

When a Rockhurst security guard arrived on the scene, the suspect pointed a gun at him. The Rockhurst security guard then shot the suspect who was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
