It’s the biggest one-day music festival in the United States, drawing more than 50,000 people, and it’s back in Midtown this weekend.
Rockfest – this year featuring bands like Alice in Chains, Seether, Papa Roach, Volbeat, and Halestorm– takes place on Saturday, May 11 from noon until 11 p.m. at the Liberty Memorial aand Penn Valley Park. The festival is sponsored by AEG Live Promotions.
The festival has been a controversial event in the surrounding neighborhoods. Some neighbors have said Midtown should celebrate the large infusion of participants and the use of the Penn Valley Park. Others have raised concerns about parking and trash left in neighborhoods and the damage done to the park.
As in past years, Rockfest has developed a neighborhood plan aimed at reducing problems in the surrounding areas.
Overnight security began Monday, May 6 at the site. Street closures will begin just after midnight on Friday.
A cleanup crew will devote 256 hours to cleaning up after the show, beginning right after the festival ends at 11 p.m. on Saturday and continuing through Sunday.

“AEG LIVE, KQRC 98.9 The Rock, our vendors, and staff are committed to making Rockfest successful, safe and an enjoyable event for our patrons and our community,” the promoters said in a message to surrounding neighborhoods. “While we believe we have a successful plan in place and have never taken this event or community support for granted, we are ALWAYS looking for areas to improve.“
