Roanoke Community Center is cooling site during heat wave

The Westport Roanoke Community Center, 3601 Roanoke, is the Midtown cooling center during the excessive heat advisory.

The City is advising Midtown residents of an excessive heart warning. High temperatures are placing some people at risk for heat exhaustion or even death.  Here are some tips for you and your neighbors:

  • Call 2-1-1 to learn about cooling centers.
  • Call 3-1-1 to request transportation to a cooling center
  • Call 9-1-1 if you or someone you know has heat exhaustion or could eb suffering a life-threatening heat stroke
  • Please help residents without air conditioning find a cool place to stay and remind them of the importance of drinking plenty of cool fluids slowly.
Midtown Cooling Centers and pools include:
  • Westport-Roanoke Community Center– 3601 Roanoke Road, Sunday: closed, Monday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Gillham Pool, 41st and Gillham streets. Free and open from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday-Fridayand1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, closed on Mondays
