Westport and the rest of Midtown will get a new set of strategic guidelines for the future of the area. The city has invited residents to give their input this month as the development of the Midtown/Westport plan begins. The plan will include the area from 31st to 55th, State Line to Paseo.
The first public meeting for the Midtown/Plaza area plan has been set for January 24.
Midtown residents are invited to an initial meeting to give input into the plan, which will create a new set of city guidelines for land use, zoning, public improvements, transportation, housing and economic development.
In addition to public input, the city has developed a steering committee that includes include one-third neighborhood representatives, one-third institutions and one-third businesses. The steering committee is scheduled to meet on January 23.
City planners say they have developed area plans for other parts of the city. The current land use plan governing Westport is now 40 years old, and the city has 46 plans that cover some area of Westport or the Plaza. The new plan will update and consolidate the plans and incorporate the principles of FOCUS, the city’s comprehensive strategic guide.
Those who cannot attend the public meeting are invited to join a discussion which has already begun on the city’s online input site MindMixer.
The meeting will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 11. E. 40th Street from 6 to 8 p.m. on January 24.
