The push for new schools in Midtown moved forward as the Midtown Community School Initiative introduced Citizens of the World Charter Schools representatives to the community. Citizens of the World may open one of its schools in Midtown.
In transportation issues, a judge ruled that the transportation development district that voters are being asked to approve is legal. It can now be put on an August ballot and if passed, is the first step in expanding the streetcar system beyond downtown. We also reported on a new study that shows more people are using bicycles as a form of transportation to get to work.
UMKC made a major announcement last week, saying it has a site for its proposed downtown arts campus. The one-block site just south of the Performing Arts Center is bounded by Broadway, Central, 17th and 18th streets.
And we took a look back in time to 1897, when an apple orchard at 40th and Warwick attracted huge crowds of people when it bloomed in the spring.
