The old city council wrapped up its work as nine new council members prepared to take office August 1. Mayor James announced the next mayor pro temp and committee appointments for the new council.

Streetcar advocates celebrated the installation of the last piece of rail and unveiled locally-designed art on one of the shelters.

The Citizens of the World charter school, set to open in 2016, got sponsorship from a state commission and is set to go to the State Board of Education for approval.

Preservationists kicked off a study of modern architecture in Kansas City, and invited the public to help out.
