Reassessment appeal deadline extended by county

Because of reassessment problems, owners of all Jackson County property will have five extra weeks to file informal appeals.

County officials announced the extension for all 296,000 parcels of property on Monday.

It came after problems surfaced with 18,000 residential properties, much of it in Midtown.

Officials previously announced a reassessment of initial reassessments for them that often vastly increased values – a prelude to vast increases in property taxes.

Those properties, which officials said Monday are now more than 18,000 parcels, were to get their second reassessment notices this week, but officials now say they will be come next week.

Informal appeals times for them were extended from this Friday to July 22. To be fair, that deadline was extended Monday for all property owners.

The deadline for formal appeals before the Board of Equalization was July 8. Officials say it will also be extended but they do not yet have a time.
