Police correct Westport robbery reports

police-department copyPolice are searching for two men suspected in five Midtown robberies on Friday night and Saturday morning, they said this afternoon.

Earlier reports of three robberies in the Westport area last night were incorrect, they said, and were part of those committed earlier.

The five Midtown robberies were apparently done by two black males – at least one armed – described as being from 17-to-20 years old, about five-feet-eight inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds, said Capt. Tye Grant.

One was the robbery of a pizza delivery man at 701 E. 40th St. Other robberies were at 38th and Warwick streets, 51st Terrace and Grand, the 1000 block of West 58th Street and on 43rd Street, he said.

A jeep was used in some of the robberies, he said. “We think we have the jeep in pocket,” he said. “It should just be a matter of time before we have the kids in pocket.”
