One confirmed dead from JJs fire, other updates

The smoke from the JJs fire about an hour after the building exploded last night.

The mayor and police chief have just concluded a press conference in which they confirmed one body has been found at the JJs fire scene. Mayor Sly James said there is still no positive ID. Fire Chief Paul Berardi said the body was found in the bar area of the restaurant in the southeast corner of the building.

The mayor said rescue workers still are not sure they can account for everyone who might have been at JJs last evening. The search is continuing and cadaver dogs are still going through the rubble. The search will continue until tonight’s winter storm no longer permits it.

The mayor asked that people avoid the west part of the Plaza.

Facing questions from reporters, James said, “Everyone wants to know who to blame but that isn’t going to happen today.” He reminded them that the major focus right now is on finding people who might have been at the site before the explosion.
