NB I-35 at Southwest Trafficway reduced to one lane

The Missouri Department of Transportation advises us that northbound I-35 is tied up today.

Details:

Northbound Interstate 35 just before the ramp to Broadway is reduced to one lane at the north end of the Southwest Trafficway Bridge for the next 12 to 24 hours for urgent repairs. To avoid significant delay, motorists are urged to seek an alternate route.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. today, a steel expansion joint that connects two portions of the bridge became dislodged.  This unexpected event required crews to shift all traffic to the far left lane.

“We had already reduced northbound I-35 in this location to two lanes for construction,” said MoDOT Senior Construction Inspector Mike Frizzell.  “Further reducing it to one lane is not something that we expected to have to do.”

Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes to include I-635, I-435 or 18th Street to US 71 until two lanes can be restored in this work zone.
