The Uptown Arts Bar celebrates its second anniversary Saturday, and its manager predicts many others will follow.
“Things are on the up and up,” said manager Jeannette Powers. “We’re literally booked through May and there’s only one date available in June,” she said.
The arts bar at 3611 Broadway started with the concept of owner Greg Patterson that it would also provide a venue for artists who do not have bands, which have many other places to play. Performance and burlesque artists, mimes and comedians, dancers, musicians, poets and others perform at the arts bar, and get paid all of the $5 cover charge.
The bar is open from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily and features a full bar and food entrees ranging from about $6 to $8, Powers said.
On Saturday night, the shows start at 7:20 and feature many of the acts that have been popular as well as dedicated and supportive of the bar, she said.
Among them will be mime Beth Byrd-Lonski, known as Sparrow. She will perform with Patterson in an act called the Butterfly Piece that they devised, Powers said. Burlesque artist Cher D. Blame will also be there and so will others who do music, dance, comedy and poetry.
Powers said the anniversary show kicks off a new year with great potential. “Come spring, the entire place is going to explode,” she said.
