Mayor James says Mayor Kay Barnes helped revitalize downtown Kansas City, and her efforts deserve greater recognition. So he’s appointed a task force to help him figure out how to honor her legacy.

“For decades to come, Kansas City will reap the benefits of Mayor Barnes’ efforts to transform downtown,” said Mayor James in a media statement.  “That type of impact and vision is worthy of substantial recognition.”

“Now that I have an office on the 29th floor of City Hall, I marvel at what she accomplished more than ever. Furthermore, I’m committed to elevating Mayor Barnes’ legacy so that our next generation of female leaders see what is possible and understand just how much she helped change our view of what our City could be.”

Members of this task force are:

  • Porter Arneill – Municipal Art Commission Director/Public Art Administrator
  • Dr. Brenda Bethman – Director, UMKC’s Women’s Center and partner in the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Initiative
  • Cindy Circo – Mayor Pro-Tem
  • Bill Dietrich –  President and CEO of Downtown Council
  • Wendy Doyle – President and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City and partner in the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Initiative

Name the toy train after her. It goes no where & follows her example of selling out taxpayer money to outside interests and developers.

Sly can have the sewers that will EVENTUALLY need to be fixed named after him. Perfect for him considering all the money he & most of the council are flushing down them for anything but basic needs.
