A passenger in a car struck Saturday near 43rd and Belleview has died of injuries.
According to the Kansas City Star, Kansas City police on Tuesday identified the passenger as Alan L. Espenlaub, 66, of Kansas City. He was in the back seat of a car that was hit by a SUV that slide through a stop sign and collided with a southbound Honda Accord.
Espenlaub was a back-seat passenger in a car struck by a sport-utility vehicle at 43rd Street and Belleview Road about 3:30 p.m. The SUV driver said his vehicle slid on wet pavement, causing him to run a stop sign and collide with the passenger side of the southbound Honda Accord.
The Star says Espenlaub complained of back pain and pain to his ribs and died less than four hours later at a hospital.
Police arrested the SUV driver for running the stop sign and having no driver’s license and no insurance.
