Man charged with assault, arson

A 44-year-old Kansas City man has been charged with arson and assault over an incident in the 3400 block of Wayne last weekend, according the the prosecutor’s office.

Richard Northcut faces first degree arson, domestic assault and felonious restraint charges.

According to court records, police were dispatched to the 3400 block of Wayne on a reported domestic assault and arson. The victim said Northcut began to splash her with what smelled like gasoline, then lit a cigarette. She tried to leave but was restrained by Northcut as he lit objects on fire. Eventually, she managed to escape. A witness said Northcut remained in a burning bed, watching the flames. Northcut came out when the fire department arrived. The victim burned her foot.
