Man charged in brash Midtown murder

Glast,Abdul[1]A Kansas City man is charged with murder in a Midtown shooting death.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Abdul Q. Glast, 25, with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, they announced today.

He allegedly shot Michael Dawkins, 55, at about 3 p.m. Monday on the street at Linwood and Holmes.

According to court records:

A witness said he was walking down the street with two other men and as he left them, he heard a shot. He then saw Dawkins on the ground and the two other men running away.

The man seen running with Glast told police he heard Glast and Dawkins arguing and was bouncing a basketball about 15 feet from them when he heard a shot.

“…he looked up and saw Glast pointing a gun at the victim, who fell to the ground.” Dawkins was shot in the face and soon pronounced dead at a hospital.

“The witness stated that he took off running southbound as he feared the suspect would harm him because he had seen what had occurred,” police reported.

Glast denied being in the area, said he was stopped by police for no reason and asked to speak to a lawyer.

I saw the article about this on the Star website Monday morning so I believe this actually happened around midnight on Sunday rather than Monday afternoon.
