With President Obama turning attention to broadband speed and cost, civic and community leaders from across the country are in Kansas City to discuss the impact of fiber technology.
The president in a speech today is asking the F.C.C. to pre-empt state laws that restrict communities’ ability to expand high-speed Internet access to underserved areas, according to the New York Times.
Meanwhile, here in Kansas City, delegates from across the country have come together for the Gigabit City Summit, organized by KC Digital Drive, to address all aspects of high-speed connectivity.
Kansas City was the first city to get Google Fiber, and the White House is acknowledging Kansas City as a leader in the movement for more broadly accessible, higher bandwidth Internet service
“We designed the Gigabit City Summit precisely to bring together mayors, commissioners, and other city leaders and give them the tools to not only bring high-speed, low-cost broadband to their towns but also understand how to use that technology for community good,” says Aaron Deacon, managing director of KC Digital Drive
