KCPS cancels school because of Royals parade

royals-paradeAfter winning their first World Series championship in 30 years, the Royals have planned their victory parade for noon tomorrow. The parade begins on Grand Boulevard at the Sprint Center and ends at Union Station with a 2 p.m. rally.

Many events have been postponed and some schools have cancelled classes tomorrow, including the Kansas City Public Schools. KCPS sent an email saying it knows canceling school may create a hardship for some students and families, but the parade route would make it difficult to transport students tomorrow.

“Because of the uncertainty associated with transporting our students to and from school, the only prudent alternative is to cancel classes tomorrow. The day will be made up at the end of the school year. We encourage our students to take advantage of the day to celebrate the Royals’ World Series victory as a testament to hard work, a “never give up” attitude, and teamwork. Go Royals!,” the district said.
