white-photoA Kansas City man who robbed a Midtown wireless store with a big revolver and the words “you know what time it is” has been charged, Jackson County announced Friday.

Leonard H. White, 28, also allegedly led police on a chase Tuesday that involved speeds up to 100 mph before he crashed at 31st and Troost and injured himself and another person, according to court records.

He is charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and felony resisting arrest.

According to court records:

White wore a mask and entered the Cricket Wireless store near 39th and Main streets, where he pulled a long black revolver from tan coveralls and pointed it at two employees.

He said, “You know what time it is” and ordered them to throw money into a blue bank bag. He left with an unknown amount of money and a roll of quarters.

“The victims said that White spoke softly and his demeanor was mellow,” police reported.

White got into the passenger seat of a black jeep and the two suspects headed north on Baltimore Avenue.

Police saw the jeep, stopped it and arrested the driver at 31st and Main streets. White moved into the driver’s seat and drove off, with police in pursuit.

White lost control about 11 blocks to the east, hit a parked car and another vehicle and crashed into a tree, injuring a victim and himself.

Police arrested him when he attempted to leave the jeep. They found stolen cash in his pants and a roll of quarters in his shoe.
