Jackson County budget taking shape

The Jackson County Legislature on Monday held departmental hearings on the county executive’s proposed budget for next year.

Various officials presented and explained their own budget requests, which were sometimes more than recommended.

There is to be a public hearing next Monday before the legislature is to pass the 2014 budget.

County Executive Mike Sanders proposes a $297 million budget with no property tax hike for the sixth time in six years.

He is calling for $6 million to renovate the courthouse annex in Independence.
