Hundreds of pounds of meth, cocaine and heroin flowed from Mexico to California to Kansas City, and money from their sale went back the other way, according to a federal indictment.
Federal prosecutors said Monday that 17 of 26 defendants named in a $16 million trafficking conspiracy are from Kansas City.
According to the press release:
Charges came at the end of a two-year investigation of a group that sold over 700 pounds of methamphetamine, 551 pounds of cocaine and pounds of heroin in the Kansas City area.
The drugs went from Mexico to California and then to Kansas City, with various family members involved in different phases of the operation.
After sale here, the money was transferred back to California in various ways, including inside hollowed-out computer towers and a microwave oven.
The federal indictment also includes a forfeiture allegation that would require the defendants to forfeit about $16 million to the government.
