Historic Midtown/Plaza area plan passes

midtown plaza area planThe City Council on Thursday passed the Midtown/Plaza area plan that neighborhood, civic and business leaders had worked on for more than two years.

It also passed the first implementation of the plan – height and use restrictions on the Country Club Plaza.

Councilman Scott Taylor said that was probably the first time a council passed a major plan and implemented part of it on the same day.

“We’re not messing around,” he said.

The council also passed a measure calling for formation of a plan implementation committee and for the city manager and council to assist the citizen committee.

Taylor recommended that the mayor select committee people who were involved in the long effort to shape the plan and to put on it people from the 3rd, 4th and 5th districts.

It replaces many old plans and covers the area generally bounded by 31st Street to 55th Street, The Paseo to State Line Road.
