Guilty plea in 2013 UMKC music student murder

A 19-year-old Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the 2013 murder of a University of Missouri-Kansas City student, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Friday.

“Alonzo D. Ruff, (dob: 9/19/1995), pleaded guilty in the killing of Aaron Markarian, as well as the shootings of three other people during a home invasion in which money and cell phones were taken from the victims,” the prosecutor said.

The incident occurred March 21, 2013, inside a residence on Brookside Boulevard near UMKC.

Ruff pleaded guilty to a count of Murder 2nd Degree, three counts of assault, robbery and five counts of Armed Criminal Action. Prosecutors agreed to seek a maximum sentence of 30  years.

A co-defendant in the case has yet to plea.
