Governor names new judge

A Kansas City lawyer and family court commissioner has been named an Associate Circuit Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit, which covers Jackson County.

Governor Jay Nixon yesterday announced the appointment of Susan Long to the position.

According to the announcement, Long has more than 25 years of experience as an attorney and currently serves as a Jackson County Family Court Commissioner. She previously has worked as a guardian ad litem, representing parents in parental rights cases, and has represented minors in juvenile proceedings.  She has also served as a mediator and arbitrator in domestic relations cases

“Susan Long has dedicated her career to strengthening families in her community and achieving justice,” Gov. Nixon said in a news release. “Her experiences will serve her well in this new role, and I am pleased to appoint her as Associate Circuit Judge from a panel of well-qualified applicants.”
