If local architects, designers, builders, engineers and others put their heads together, could they find creative ways to make Kansas City more accessible?
The Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the American Institute of Architects –Kansas City hope so.
They’re hosting a forum February 27, aimed at inspiring “Kansas City’s creative architecture, engineering and construction industry to share ideas to make the community more easily accessible for everyone, especially individuals with disabilities,” according to an announcement.
The event features a lineup of national experts, successful case studies involving Enlightened Accessible Design, a panel discussion and more.
“Kansas City has always prided itself in the warmth and welcoming nature of our community,” said David H. Westbrook, chair of the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities. “It is our hope that through this forum, we can start a movement among developers, builders, architects and engineers to make Enlightened Accessible Design a signature of that warm and welcoming spirit.”

- Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kauffman Foundation, 4801 Rockhill Road
- Hosted by the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the American Institute of Architects – Kansas City.
- Reception from 5-6:30 p.m. at The Whole Person, 3710 Main St. The Whole Person is a center for independent living that provides a full range of community-based services for people with disabilities.
