“Old KC Trolley,” a work by artist Donna Hanna, is featured in the Buttonwood Art Space’s First Friday show. The “Kansas City Seen” show includes images of Kansas City fountains, the Plaza, Loose Park, notable buildings and outdoor jazz scenes, all inspired by the city itself.
From Midtown to Downtown to the Plaza, Kansas City artists have used the city as a source of inspiration. For its First Friday show tomorrow, September 7, the Buttonwood Art Space at 3013 Main will showcase paintings whose theme is the city itself. The show will remain at the gallery through September 28.
Buttonwood Financial Group business manager Kathy Drungilas says the gallery put out a call for artists to submit to the show. “Some created a work of art or others who had lived in the area may have already had one,” she says. “The works include landscapes but also just “slice of life’ scenes.”
The show is also a fundraiser for KC Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, a nonprofit group that provides legal and accounting assistance to qualifying arts and arts organizations.
The Buttonwood Art Space is a gallery where artists are invited to display and sell their works. The Buttonwood Financial Group, an independent wealth management company, maintains the gallery within its business space.
