The Westport Historical Society and the Westport Library promise Civil War era Westport will come alive on Saturday. They’re offering their Second Saturday Speaker Series at 2 p.m. at the Westport Library, 118 Westport Road.
According to the announcement:
CITIZENS UNDER FIRE: Westport, Missouri in the Civil War In 1860 Westport was a prosperous trading community on Missouri’s frontier. The ensuing firestorm of the Civil War caused the loss of trade, civil rights, liberty and property — even the loss of life for the citizens of Westport. The tumultuous events and persons who shaped Civil War era Westport will come to life in this illustrated talk by Daniel L. Smith, Kansas City historian, past President of the Kansas City Civil War Round Table, and Chairman of the Board of the Monnett Battle of Westport Fund.
